Red Dead Redemption II Review

Red Dead Redemption II Review

Red Dead Redemption II is one of this year’s most anticipated games. It has been created by Rockstar, the developers behind one of the most successful games of all time, Grand Theft Auto V. Red Dead Redemption II is a prequel/sequel to Red Dead Redemption and certainly delievers, exceeding all expectations, creating a hugely interactive and expansive game.

Red Dead Redemption II’s single player involves you playing the role of Arthur Morgan and exploring his story as an outlaw and member of the Van Der Linde gang as the Wild West is starting to die out. The story follows Arthur and the Van Der Linde gang being on the run after a crime goes wrong in Blackwater, they are being hunted and are highly wanted so the gang has to live it rough. The story starts off at a slow pace but after the first chapter, the story becomes more fast-paced and much more enjoyable as you are able to explore the vast and beautiful landscapes on offer, fulfilling the free roam experience.

The world of Red Dead is massive and hugely immersive, at least twice the size of its predcessor, meaning you can always find something to do and get involved in. Even after the 60-hour campaign, you can still find gang hideouts to clear, bounties to hunt down, side missions and more. The campaign includes you taking part in multiple robberies and crimes with the gang to create a memorable and sophisticated single player experience. The game involves you creating a strong bond with your horse, which you travel around the Red Dead world with. You have to feed, clean and care for it. As well as looking after your horse, you must look after yourself by cleaning, shaving and sleeping regularly. All of this creates a really realistic  and once again, immersive, experience that is completely unique. Things like this showcase Red Dead’s immense attention to detail, making it a truly special game where you can understand that a lot of time has been invested in its creation.

Red Dead isn’t just a single player game, multiplayer forms a big part of the game with the ability to make gangs and posses as well as multiplayer missions to enjoy a shootout with friends. To enhance the game’s detail even futher, you are able to interact with every single character, which is uncommon based on many games. The attention to detail is the most stand out feature of this game as most interiors are also able to be explored. There are over 200 species of animals, which you can hunt and eat to survive. The graphics are exquisite with the game looking particularly incredible in 4K. The time put into developing this game has certainly paid off.

Red Dead Redemption II excels in providing an immersive and hugely expansive experience for players to feel like their in the Wild West. With an impressive story, mechanics and graphics, the game becomes very enjoyable. The attention to detail is what boosts this game’s superiority with outstanding specific additions that alter the experience’s realism. The multiplayer still needs development in creating more enjoyable and experiences online and the story does start slowly. However, Red Dead Redemption II is an exceptional achievement and a game that deserves recognition.
